Under the patronage of the Ministry of Education in Jordan, the TAMAM project steering team at the American University of Beirut organized the 11th gathering for the TAMAM Schools titled “TAMAM as an Educational Change Movement: Towards Building Professional Learning Communities to Enhance Student Learning.” The event took place over three days, from May 20 to May 22, 2016, at the Landmark Hotel in Amman, Jordan. TAMAM’s 11th gathering included three distinct themes.
The first day’s theme was “School Improvement in Service of Enhancing Student Learning.” It included a main session titled “The Role of Reflection and Evidence in Improving Student Learning,” and two parallel sessions titled “Skills Needed to Serve the Teaching and Learning Process.”
The second day’s theme was “Enhancing Collaboration and Building Learning Communities to Facilitate School-Based Improvement.” The day began with a session titled “Mediation and Dialogue as a Foundation for Facilitating School-Based Improvement,” followed by parallel sessions on “Skills Needed to Build Learning Communities.”
The third day’s theme was “Towards Institutionalizing and Sustaining School-Based Improvement.” It included a main session titled “Modifying Organizational Structure and Educational Policies to Support and Facilitate Sustainable Educational Improvement,” followed by parallel sessions on “Approaches to Building and Modifying Organizational Structure: Promising Field Experiences.”
The event featured discussion sessions and experience-sharing, which led to defining the TAMAM student profile. Additionally, school experiences and achievements were showcased, along with a poster session for these experiences. The final session was a reflective discussion aimed at setting future perspectives for TAMAM as an improvement journey.
