President Medal of Appreciation (2024)
On 9 February 2024, Dr. Fadlo Khuri, President of the American University of Beirut (AUB), presented the President’s Medal of Appreciation to Mr. Khalid Ali Al-Turki, the founder and chairman of Khalid Ali Al-Turki & Sons and Dhahran Schools, and the principal sponsor of TAMAM for seventeen years, in recognition of his contributions and as a token of gratitude for his support of AUB.
Dr. Khuri stated, “The continuous support provided by Mr. Khalid to the TAMAM project is the longest in the history of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and the Department of Education at AUB. Thanks to his support, the TAMAM team has been able to continue their research and development activities for 17 years without interruption, which has contributed to the development of models and strategies whose effectiveness is beginning to show in bringing about educational reform in the region.”
Mr. Khalid Al-Turki’s contributions were not limited to supporting the TAMAM program only; he also supported many students over the past sixteen years in pursuing their education through the Sally Al-Turki Scholarship Fund at AUB. Additionally, he has provided support to the Science and Mathematics Education Center (SMEC) at the Department of Education”.
UNESCO Hamdan Prize (2022)
TAMAM was selected as a Laureate of the Seventh edition of the UNESCO-Hamdan Prize for Teacher Development.
Awarded every two years, the Prize is generously supported by the Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Distinguished Academic Performance (Hamdan Foundation). The prize amounts to $100,000 to support each winner.
Dr. Rima Karami, TAMAM director, attended the ceremony that took place on World Teachers’ Day on the 5th of October 2022 at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris to receive this prize. Upon receiving the prize, Dr. Rima gave a speech and participated later during the same day in a panel discussion as one of the Laureates of the UNESCO Hamdan Prize.
An international jury consisting of five distinguished professionals with high-level of knowledge and experience in teacher-related issues selected TAMAM and two other projects as a Laureate of this Prize this year among 75 applications. The jury rationalized their selection of TAMAM as a project that empowers educators to be advocates and leaders of educational change at the local level, works to support the implementation and sustainability of innovative initiatives, and identifies the engine of educational reform as a culturally grounded capacity building model for school improvement. In addition, TAMAM demonstrates that research is not a disconnected producer of academic knowledge, but that it must and can be directed to practical applications. The jury also highlighted that TAMAM shows exceptional promise for sustainability and replicability as it has been expanded to multiple countries.

BELMAS Reflective Practice Award (2018)
Dr. Rima Karami, TAMAM director, was selected as a runner up in the BELMAS 2018 Reflective Practice Award while participating in the “British Educational Leadership and Educational Research Society” (BELMAS) on July 7th, 2018, in Windsor, UK.
